What is Liverpool Rummy?
Liverpool Rummy is a variant of the popular Gin Rummy game. It can be played by three to eight people and it can be enjoyed by almost everyone; it seems to be a particular family favorite. It is similar to Progressive Rummy and both games are types of Contract Rummy. It is a really engaging game that can be enjoyed by children as young as six and adults of any age. The thing we most like about Liverpool Rummy is that it not only offers a bit of challenge but it is also very social.
How to Play Liverpool Rummy
Anyone who has ever played Progressive Rummy or Contract Rummy will already have a good idea about how to play Liverpool Rummy. This is a game that requires a bit of skill as well as luck. To be able to play you need two to four packs of cards; depending on the number of players. The main difference between this game and Contract Rummy is the number of deals that occur during a game and the number of cards that players are given. There are also a few other rules that make it unique. There are six deals during the game and two extra jokers added to the pack.
In Liverpool Rummy each of the players works alone. The game begins when the dealer is selected randomly; whoever selects the lowest card from the pack. During the game the players will have specific goals to reach depending on the deal; for example, during the first deal the players aim to get two sets. Each player is given seven cards to begin with for the first deal; there are a different number of cards given depending on the deal. Throughout the game the players need to pick up and lay down cards from what is remaining. When the first person has run out of cards it is then time to count up the scores for that deal.

The main reason why this and games like Progressive Rummy are popular is that there is a lot more than luck involved. You not only need to be aware of what you are doing but to be good at the game you need to keep a close eye on other players. It is also very tactical and the more you play it the better you can become. The only way you will know this though is to give it a try.
